Converting AVIF to JPG

Add AVIF files above and download JPGs. AVIF displays in every current browser, but plenty of desktop apps, older operating systems and upload forms still can't open it. JPEG works everywhere.

What to expect

  • The JPG will be larger. AVIF is one of the most efficient image formats there is; the same picture as JPEG needs noticeably more bytes.
  • Use quality 90. Both formats are lossy and the image is re-encoded; a high setting keeps what the AVIF has.
  • Transparency is flattened onto the background colour you choose.
  • HDR images may look flatter. AVIF can store 10- and 12-bit HDR; JPEG is 8-bit, so very bright highlights are compressed into a smaller range. Ordinary web AVIFs are 8-bit and convert without change.

Older browsers work too

ImageDoctor reads AVIF with your browser's own decoder where it has one — every current browser does — and falls back to a built-in decoder where it doesn't, so an older browser can still convert the file. Either way the image stays on your device. More about the format in the AVIF reference.
