Converting JPG to PNG
Add your JPG files above and download them as PNG. The PNG is a pixel-for-pixel copy of the JPG: nothing is lost in the conversion, and nothing is gained either — any blur or compression artefacts in the JPG are copied exactly.

When converting is worth it
- You are going to edit the image repeatedly. Each JPEG save loses a little; a PNG working copy doesn't.
- A platform or template requires PNG.
- You plan to cut out the background. The PNG can hold the transparency once you remove it — the conversion alone doesn't. See how to make a background transparent.
When it isn't
- To make a blurry or blocky JPG look better. PNG preserves what is there; it can't restore what JPEG compression removed.
- For a website. A PNG photo is several times heavier than it needs to be. Convert to WebP with JPG to WebP instead.
- For email or uploads with a size limit. Keep the JPG, or compress it.

Common questions
No. The PNG copies the JPG's pixels exactly, including its compression artefacts. It only prevents further loss if you edit and save the image again.
PNG is lossless, and lossless compression can't shrink photographic detail the way JPEG does. For photos, a PNG is commonly several times the size of the JPG it came from.
No. A JPG has no transparency, so the converted PNG has the same solid background. Transparency has to be created by removing the background.
